While it was necessary to visit archives, many of the resources used in writing this account were obtained from the internet. Parliamentary Papers Online proved to be particularly important, and was the source of the information provided in sections 3-5 of this bibliography. The British Newspaper Archive was used for most of the newspapers, although it also proved necessary to consult the Scotsman Digital Archive and to read the John o’ Groat Journal and the Northern Ensign for 1914 on microfilm in the British Library.
